Judy was born and raised in Normal, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. It was there she met her husband Doug. She did post graduate study in linguistics at West Chester University and was able to spend a summer teaching English in China. Later she worked for the Florida Farmworker Program as a counselor to help migrant families enter school and the job market.
Doug was born and grew up in Mt. Morris, Illinois. Academically he was a merit scholar and was a dean's list student at Illinois Wesleyan where he ultimately graduated with a B.A. degree. While at Wesleyan, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and also served as president of the inter-fraternity council. After graduation, Doug went to work for General Electric completing their three year financial management training program. GE moved the family from Illinois to Ohio, to Puerto Rico, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and finally to Lakeland Florida as plant manager. He ultimately retired and returned to school to earn a master's degree in Adult Education from South Florida University.
