Venice – March 22

The Venice Sail & Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons will present the Squadron Safe Boating Course starting on March 22, 2010.  The Course will consist of four consecutive 2-hour Monday evening class sessions starting at 7:00 PM and will be held at the Waymire Training Center, 1450 Lucaya Ave., Venice, FL.  This is a comprehensive safe boating course and covers all aspects of boat handling, aids to navigation, weather forecasting, rules of the road, required boating equipment, proper anchoring, radio operation procedures, and Florida Boating Law which requires anyone under the age of 22 years who operates a vessel with a 10 HP or greater engine to have passed an Approved Boater Safety Course and to have photographic ID and a Boater Safety Identification Card issued by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.  Successful completion of this Safe Boating Course will qualify the student for the Florida Safe Boating Certificate.  Many insurance companies will give a reduced premium rate to boat owners that complete this Boating Course. 
 
The fee for the Course is $29.00 per student or $45.00 for two students sharing the 268 page Boating Course Manual which is included in the fee. St. Pete – April 5

Are you ready to expand your boating knowledge and skills? The America's Boating Course presented by the St. Petersburg Sail and Power Squadron is available to anyone 12 or older.  Instruction is free. Cost of the materials is $25.00 per family.  Classes are held once a week (2 hours each Monday), for 7 weeks.

Completion of this course will enable the student to skipper a boat with confidence. Because most skippers will attend only one safety course, we believe it should be as comprehensive as possible. Plus, graduates are eligible to join the squadron and take advantage of all the other great educational opportunities afforded to SPSPS members.

St. Pete – April 24

The St. Petersburg Sail and Power Squadron will present the United States Power Squadron's Seminar Series program, Advanced Powerboat Handling..  Advance Powerboat Handling will cover three topics:  Close Quarters Maneuvering, How Boats Behave in Rough Waters and Handling at Sea.  During the seminar you will study how your boat will behave and why in response to your actions.  On the water you will visualize the controls required and how you can execute them easily.  The full color book, Powerboat Handling, is included as a reference.   WHEN:  Saturday, 24 April, 2010, 9AM- 4 PM.  WHERE:  St. Petersburg Sailing Center, 250 2nd Ave SE, Demens Landing, St. Petersburg, Florida.  COST:  Instruction is free.  Materials and Lunch $50.  $10 more for each additional family member.  Pre-registration and Pre-payment is required.  Your fees must be received prior to 21 April.  Send Checks payable to SPSPS to SPSPS, 1643 Watermark Circle NE, St. Petersburg, FL  33702.   CONTACT: www.boating-stpete.org or call 727-525-0968 to confirm your registration.
